The Confluence
Museum's
role is to create a greater understanding of an increasingly complex world: by engaging, delighting, and educating. Our objectives are to develop a deep-rooted sense of scientific curiosity, to explain innovation and to increase understanding of technological, environmental and societal issues.
The Confluence Museum responds to an urgent need; while there are more than 200 science and technology institutions and organizations today in France,
not one focuses simultaneously on science and technology and the implications on society. No one has yet addressed this critical area; and the need to clarify these issues has never been as important as it is today.
Beyond the global objective of diffusing knowledge, the Museum has the double mission of enabling young people to discover science in a stimulating and fun manner, as well as to inform and motivate adults to be proactive about the critical issues facing society in the 21st century.
A prime location,
an international diffusion of knowledge
Based on market research, 400 000 people are expected to visit the Confluence Museum every year. This estimation will make it one of the most widely visited museums in France.
Its museographic articulation on two levels proposes a new type of museum structure in France:
. permanent core collections,
. in-depth multi-disciplinary exhibits.
A place where scientific experts, as well as the general public can meet,
is a flagship project, with breathtaking architecture and a magical location, overlooking the convergence of the Rhône and Saône rivers.
On an international scale, as well as on a local level, this urbanization project will transform the city center of Lyon, the second largest metropolitan area in France.
And, thanks to its location at the gates of the city, the Museum will be a symbol of regional revitalization and a sign of Europe's future in the 21st century.

The Museum's cultural, scientific, industrial and societal vocation, as well as its attractiveness to the many decision makers, has made the Confluence Museum, from its conception, a project enthusiastically supported by the economic community.
The Rhône Department, the management of the Confluence Museum and the Corporate Patrons Club, in their desire to innovate and anchor the Museum in the European community, has established a major financing campaign, entrusted to the international fundraising agency, Philanthrôpia.
